Your Sleep FAQs Answered

Are you a Certified Sleep Consultant?

Yes, absolutely. Not all sleep consultants are created equally. A Certified Sleep Consultant has undergone thorough training in sleep science, normal sleep problems and a wide variety of sleep coaching methods. Certified consultants are often mentored under very experienced consultants, with the goal of ensuring that your family gets the very best in baby, toddler and preschooler sleep support. Finally, qualified consultants are members of recognized sleep consultant associations, guaranteeing that they continually have access to the most up-to-date information about safe and evidence-based sleep.

I have three Certifications, in Pediatric Sleep, Newborn Sleep, and Potty Training.

In addition to all of these qualifications, I have extensive training, education and experience in health policy and health care management. This background provides me with the ability to assess sleep issues from a highly thoughtful and analytical perspective, ensuring that I get to the bottom of your sleep issues, pinpointing the exact cause(s) in order to develop a highly effective plan. I also have graduate-level research training which allows me to correctly interpret sleep science studies and apply them to my practice.

Do you use gentle sleep coaching methods?

Yes, I use a variety of gentle sleep coaching methods to help improve your child’s sleep. There are so many ways to get you all the rest you need and deserve. I always begin each consultation with a thorough assessment that takes multiple factors into account, including your parenting style and philosophy, your child’s personality, your preferences for comforting your child throughout the process, and a whole lot more. It is a truly holistic approach that translates into solutions that meet your family’s specific needs.

Do you guarantee results within X number of days?

Never have I ever told a client that their little one will be sleeping through the night within X number of days. I do not take a ‘rip the bandage off’ approach. I will never ask you to follow a rigid plan versus following your child. I do not ask you to implement inflexible methodology. On the contrary, together we will use a holistic and highly personalized approach that considers your child as a whole human. Factors including your little one’s temperament, their history of colic (inconsolable crying in the newborn phase), their detailed sleep history, current and past sleep conditions, and much, much more influence how quickly you will reach your sleep goals.

Since this mix of factors is entirely unique to each child, short-term guarantees do not work and they often set you up to feel as though you’ve failed (when you most certainly have not!). My passion and my mission with my work is to set you up for long-term sleep success, with progressive improvements along the way. Once I get to know you and your little one(s) better, I will provide you with a specific, realistic timeline for success.

How old does my baby need to be?

It really is never too early to start implementing healthy sleep habits. When parents invest in establishing these habits from day one, formal sleep coaching or training is often not even needed or needed minimally. If you are pregnant or have a newborn and are interested in establishing healthy sleep habits right from the beginning, I’m Newborn Sleep Certified and my packages cover all ages and stages from 0-6+ years.

Do I need to night wean?

Parents often question whether they should or can continue to feed their baby overnight as baby learns to sleep independently. Ultimately, whether or not a baby needs to feed during the night is a question for baby’s doctor, who has the best insight into their growth and development and any potential health concerns. As a Certified Sleep Consultant, I will always prioritize your doctor’s advice and your family’s goals for feeding and sleep in general. There are certainly plenty of ways to help improve your baby’s sleep, while still offering feeds during the night.

How can I get my baby to sleep longer stretches at night?

There are so many variables that affect whether or not a baby can sleep long stretches overnight. Baby’s age, health status, sleep environment, sleep circumstances, daytime sleep schedule, activity level, personality and ability to fall sleep independently are only a few of the factors that I analyze with each consultation. Want longer stretches overnight without getting a sleep consultation? Make one simple change and you’ll soon be on your way to getting more sleep.

Gradually wean baby off whatever they have been relying on to fall asleep, so they can learn to fall asleep independently. If you’ve been rocking baby to sleep, try less movement each day until baby is able to get into their bed awake and fall asleep on their own. Eventually, you’ll all be getting a lot more sleep!

My baby is less than four months old. Can I still work with you? What are my options?

Yes! We can absolutely work together to create a sleep plan and strategy for your newborn. Rosalee is Newborn Sleep Certified. I don’t do any kind of traditional sleep training with babies younger than four months old. With brand new babies, I focus on gently and gradually helping them sleep longer and more often – and setting you up for success once the “4 month sleep regression” takes place. If you establish these habits early on, there is no need to sleep train down the road.

Will you tell me to make my baby “cry it out”?

Absolutely not. Cry-it-out is NOT the only way. All of our methods are gentle, and take into account your parenting preferences and philosophies.

What if I don’t mind keeping overnight feeds, but just want my baby to be more of an independent sleeper?

No problem! You can still greatly improve overnight sleep, without dropping feeds if you don’t want to or your baby still needs them.

I’ve researched the entire Internet, talked to all of my friends, and even had success with my last baby – in other words, I’ve tried everything – and my baby still doesn’t sleep through the night. Aren’t you just going to tell me to do the same things I’ve already tried?

Some of our techniques might be similar to what you’ve tried before. But we often see parents trying way too many things at once. All the information in your customized sleep plan, taken together and applied consistently, will be the difference you’ve been looking for. We also know what to look for in your little one’s response to the techniques in the plan, and can tweak accordingly.

Why would someone need 90 days of support? Does that mean sleep training is going to take that long?

Great question. A straightforward sleep plan will not take 90 days to implement! For many families, 30 days is more than enough. The reason we offer 90 days of support through our VIP package is because some families feel better knowing they have access to extra support over a longer period of time, and others are dealing with multiple issues. The longer period of time allows us to deal with them together, one-at-a-time, without any kind of rush or pressure.

What’s your sleep guarantee all about?

We’re so sure my approach will work for you that we’re willing to guarantee it. The VIP and Ultimate packages come with a ‘Sleep Guarantee’ which means you have Rosalee’s help until you reach your family’s sleep goals. So there’s really nothing to lose, and a whole lot of quality sleep to gain.

Do you offer a payment plan?

Yes! For the VIP package, we offer the option to pay in three equal monthly installments.
